Another benefit of HDTV is the 16:9 screen aspect ratio. This means you can see Hollywood movies the same way you see them at the theater instead of it having to be modified to fit your screen. Film makers have hated the 4:3 aspect ratio because it always took something away from the movie when it had to be cropped to fit the smaller screen. Today however, film makers don’t have to sacrifice anything in their movies which gives us the ability with surround sound and popcorn to have that theater-like experience right in our own living rooms.
HDTV is slowly going to supplant standard definition TV and everyone will be watching HD channels all the time. We won’t think about the differences in quality because in the future it will all be high definition and we won’t see any differences because there won’t be any. Today however, there are still satellite tv packages that include SDTV channels and even though they look better on a HDTV, true HD sources really bring out the quality you paid for when you bought your new TV.
